Your body might already be giving off signals, or perhaps none at all. In this blog, we guide you through pregnancy symptoms by week during the first weeks, so you can better recognize what might be part of this phase.

When do pregnancy symptoms start?

When the first pregnancy symptoms begin varies for every woman. Some women feel early on that their body is reacting differently, while others only notice changes later. This has to do with hormonal fluctuations and how your body responds to them. It is also possible for symptoms to come and go. That is normal and part of this initial phase.

Pregnancy symptoms by week

In the first weeks, pregnancy symptoms often develop gradually. Not every week feels the same, and symptoms can vary in intensity.

The first weeks: often no clear symptoms yet

In the beginning, many women don’t notice much yet. This can raise questions, especially if you’ve just found out or suspect you’re pregnant. However, it’s very normal to have few symptoms at this stage. Your body is mainly busy on the inside.
Some women notice subtle changes, such as getting tired more quickly, a different feeling in the lower abdomen, or reacting more emotionally than usual. Feeling nothing at all is also common. Both situations are equally normal.

Weeks 3 and 4: first recognizable signs

Around weeks 3 and 4, the first pregnancy symptoms begin for many women. Your body reacts more clearly to hormonal changes. You might notice that you get tired more easily or that your breasts feel more sensitive.
Mild abdominal discomfort or the onset of nausea can also occur. Additionally, some women experience difficulty concentrating or a somewhat dreamy feeling, often described as brain fog. It can help to take rest a bit more often during this phase and adjust your pace.

Weeks 5 and 6: symptoms become clearer

In weeks 5 and 6, pregnancy symptoms become more recognizable for many women. Nausea occurs more frequently and can be present at various times of the day. Mood swings are also regularly experienced during this period.
You might notice that you get emotional more quickly or that your head feels fuller. Headaches, dizziness, and a greater need for sleep are also common. Your body asks for attention and rest during this phase, even if you might still want to do everything as you were used to.

Weeks 7 and 8: peak in symptoms

Weeks 7 and 8 are experienced as intense by many women. Nausea can persist and smells may seem stronger than usual. Your energy level is often lower and daily activities can take more effort.
This period can also feel heavier mentally. You might feel overstimulated more quickly or notice that your concentration decreases. This is a phase where listening to your body is extra important and where you should give yourself a bit more space.

Weeks 9 and 10: changes in how you feel

In weeks 9 and 10, some women notice that pregnancy symptoms slowly decrease. Nausea may subside and you might start to feel a bit more energetic. For others, complaints remain present. Both experiences are normal.
Your body continues to adapt and does so at its own pace. Comparing yourself to others doesn’t help; your own experience is what matters.

What happens after the first weeks?

After these first weeks, the pregnancy often gradually changes in character. For many women, the focus shifts from mainly feeling to also experiencing. How your body and belly develop further happens in phases and is experienced differently each trimester.

The first weeks as a special beginning

Even though the first weeks are often still invisible to the outside world, they form the start of a special journey. Your body is laying the foundation for everything that follows. Many women look back on this phase with wonder later on.

Precisely because this beginning is so intimate and personal, some choose to capture their pregnancy at a later moment as a lasting memory. At The 3D Bar, we see how valuable it can be to pause and reflect on this beginning and honor the body for what it carries.
