1. Listen to Your Body
Besides the many changes your body is going through, there are also noticeable changes in your daily life. You have your normal work routine and appointments with friends. But you’re also busy preparing for the baby. The nursery needs to be renovated, and you’re gathering baby supplies. These activities can be an extra burden on your body. So always listen to your body and take timely rest. Feel free to nap during the day if you want, especially now that you can still do so undisturbed.
2. Create a Comfortable Environment
When your baby is born, you’ll adapt to your baby’s sleep and eating schedule. But that doesn’t mean you can’t plan other things. Make it as comfortable as possible for yourself and your newborn. Set your boundaries in time. Do the grandparents want to admire their grandchild at any time of the day? Clearly agree that you don’t want to be disturbed at certain times of the day. And if your maternity nurse talks too much, you can certainly let her know.
3. Prepare for the Birth
Are you dreading the birth? That’s very natural. You can alleviate some of your uncertainty with good preparation. Some people delve into the medical aspect and seek advice from the midwife. Others prefer advice from their mother. Stories from others can reassure you, but don’t let them influence you too much. Every birth and experience is personal. Creating a birth plan can be a valuable tool. By setting your preferences and wishes in advance, you can avoid making last-minute decisions. Pregnancy exercises, such as yoga, contribute to good preparation. And also think in time about the environment and way you want to give birth.
4. Emotions Are Allowed
From the moment you’re pregnant, a flood of emotions may arise that you might not recognize in yourself. Just let these emotions be. Realize that you don’t always have to be cheerful or upbeat just because it’s expected. This applies not only during your pregnancy but also certainly (shortly) after the birth. Allow yourself a good cry or let yourself be uncertain or even scared. Besides the influence of hormones, it’s perfectly normal to need time to adjust to the fact that a new little person has entered your life.
5. Make Time for Yourself and Your Partner
During your pregnancy and after the birth, it may sometimes seem like the whole world revolves around you and your baby. To some extent, it does, but your partner is still there too. It’s important to experience the pregnancy together and also make time for each other during this period. This involves moments that aren’t about your future family member but about your relationship. So don’t just pick out new baby furniture together, but also book a short vacation early in your pregnancy. And after the birth, do something fun together. There’s always a trusted person willing to babysit.
6. Create a Timeless Memory of Your Pregnancy
You’re undoubtedly taking plenty of photos during your pregnancy. But it’s also nice to have a more tangible memory of your pregnancy. Consider a pregnancy figurine of your pregnant belly. These are beautiful gifts for expectant mothers that you can give to yourself, or you can give it as a gift to your pregnant friend. Check out
